Founder, Executive Director
Dr. Ann Messer
Ann Messer, MD, is a board-certified family physician who has been practicing family medicine and urgent care for 30 years. With two decades of experience in Global Health, Ann founded One Good Turn to give health workers around the world the tools and knowledge to build self-sustaining, healthy communities.

Associate Director
Addison Scales
Addison Scales leads OGT's program implementation across global teams. She first joined OGT in 2020, coordinating COVID outreach and educational projects. Addison has worked across the nonprofit and academic sectors, managing community-based research on menstrual health, COVID response, and healthcare access.

Development and Communications Manager
Sheila Carpenter
Sheila Carpenter leads development and communications at One Good Turn. She brings international nonprofit experience and collaborates with our Kenya team on grant writing and amplifying the stories and voices of the communities leading the SHARE Program.

Research and Programs Assistant
Shayna Kushner
Shayna Kushner has a Masters in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies from the London School of Economics. She graduated from Ursinus College with a bachelors degree in International Relations and peace and social justice. Shayna has experience consulting with UNICEF, working in International Development, and conducting global health research in the Middle East.

Medical Writer
Viana Phan
Viana is a fourth-year medical student at McGovern Medical School in Houston. She received a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, specializing in Behavioral and Social Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021. She joined the OGT team in 2020 as a Communications Intern and quickly transitioned to join our Medical Programming team, where she contributes her talents to our expanding library of medical education protocols.

Ann Messer, MD
Board Chair
Dr. Ann Messer is a board-certified family physician with 30 years of experience in family medicine and urgent care. After over a decade working in global health, she founded One Good Turn in 2016 to equip health workers worldwide with the tools and knowledge to build self-sustaining, healthy communities. A graduate of Rush Medical School in Chicago, she completed her residency at Harvard and Central Texas Medical Foundation, focusing on internal medicine, psychiatry, and family practice. Dr. Messer has been recognized as a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State for developing a clinical competency curriculum in Cambodia, and she received the Inspire Humanitarian Award from the United Nations Association Austin Chapter.

Timothy Hines, MD
Secretary
Dr. Timothy Hines is the founder and past president of Central Texas Kidney Associates and a board-certified nephrologist. A graduate of Baylor College of Medicine, he completed his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s in Chicago and his fellowship at Harvard Medical School. A brilliant clinician, Dr. Hines has long supported the mission of One Good Turn, joining his wife Ann in medical mission work from the organization’s earliest days.

Gregg C. Waddill III, JD, MPH
Treasurer
Gregg Waddill brings 50 years of experience as an attorney working across the for-profit, not-for-profit, and public sectors of the health care industry. He has served as general counsel for several hospitals, held senior health care management roles, and has maintained a private practice in Austin, Texas, since 2002. Gregg holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Alan Steele, MD, PhD, JD
Secretary
Alan Steele is recently retired from a distinguished career spanning medicine, law, and chemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.D. from Boston University Medical School, and a J.D. from Suffolk University. Alan practiced medicine for more than a decade as an academic physician with board certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, serving on the faculty of both Harvard Medical School and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. His research included basic immunology and transplantation. In 1998, he transitioned to law, practicing as a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office with three Boston law firms until his retirement in 2022. He also served on the Innovation Series Committee of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge.
