ANN MESSER, MD

FOUNDER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, & BOARD CHAIR

Ann Messer, MD, is a board-certified family physician who has been practicing family medicine and urgent care for 30 years. With over a decade of experience in Global Health, Ann founded One Good Turn to give health workers around the world the tools and knowledge to build self-sustaining, healthy communities. A graduate of Rush Medical School in Chicago, Dr. Messer did her residency work at Harvard in a triad of internal medicine, psychiatry, and family practice. Dr. Messer was named a Fulbright Specialist by the US Department of State for her work developing a clinical competency curriculum in Cambodia. She was recently awarded the Inspire Humanitarian Award by the United Nations Association Austin Chapter. Dr. Messer lives in Austin with her husband Tim; their three grown children are nearby, and together they enjoy outdoor sports, good food, and the family dog, Ziggy.

TIMOTHY HINES, MD

SECRETARY, BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Timothy Hines, MD, founder and past president of Central Texas Kidney Associates, is a board-certified nephrologist and a brilliant clinician. Dr. Hines attended the Baylor College of Medicine, did his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's in Chicago, and completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Married to Ann, he has long and enthusiastically supported the mission of One Good Turn. Tim has shared in Ann's medical mission work from the beginning and provides a valuable perspective on the development of One Good Turn. He's also her partner in raising their three fantastic college-age kids.

GREGG C. WADDILL III

TREASURER, BOARD OF DIRECTORS; GENERAL COUNSEL

Gregg Waddill has 50 years' experience as an attorney. He has worked in the for-profit, not-for-profit and public sectors of the health care industry. Gregg has served as general counsel for several hospitals, held a number of senior health care management positions and been in private practice since 2002 in Austin, Texas. Gregg holds a Bachelor of Business Adminsitration from the University of Texas at Austin, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

ALAN W. STEELE, Ph.D, M.D., J.D

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Alan is recently retired from a varied career encompassing medicine, law, and chemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania; an M.D. from Boston University Medical School, and a J.D. from Suffolk University. Alan practiced medicine for a dozen years as an academic physician with board certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, at both of which he taught, provided clinical care, and conducted independent basic research in immunology and transplantation. In 1998, Alan transitioned from medicine to law, in which he practiced as a registered patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in three law firms in Boston until he retired in July 2022. While practicing law, Alan served for several years on the board-like Innovation Series Committee of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge.

Alan is married and has three grown sons living in Washington, D.C., Boston, and Denver. He is an avid oarsman, cyclist, skier, and traveler. Alan cares deeply about global access to healthcare and education.

TONY MACIE

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Tony Macie works in strategic development for multiple organizations. As Founder and CEO of Expert-Exchange, an organization that connects veterans with development projects in post-conflict countries, Tony was an integral part of OGT's initial projects in Cambodia. Tony's post-graduate education is in Mandarin and business studies. He provides guidance, stellar advice, and in-country project support.

ADDISON SCALES

DIRECTOR, KENYA SCHOOL HEALTH TRAINING PROGRAM

Addison Scales is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Nutrition, minor in Anthropology, and interdisciplinary certificate in Social Inequality, Health, & Policy. She has worked across the nonprofit and academic sectors, coordinating multiple research projects and initiatives on reproductive health, COVID-19 response and care access, and urban Native health. Before rejoining One Good Turn in her current role, Addison bridged her passions for reproductive health and education, leading gender-based social-emotional programming for youth in the Seattle area. As Director of OGT’s School Health Training Program, Addison manages daily operations and coordinates OGT’s U.S. and global teams to best achieve the program’s goals. Addison lives in Seattle, WA where she enjoys adventuring in the mountains, reading, and traveling as much as possible.

VIANA PHAN

MEDICAL PROGRAMMING ASSOCIATE

Viana Phan is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and specialization in Behavioral and Social Sciences. She initially joined One Good Turn as a Communications Intern to design graphics and make health information more accessible and understandable. As a Medical Programming Associate, she looks forward to engaging with our community partners to develop medical resources that educate and empower them to take control of their health. Outside of OGT, Viana works as a vision therapist and is currently applying to medical school. In her free time, she enjoys board game nights with friends and exploring hiking spots around Austin.
