ANN MESSER, MD

FOUNDER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, & BOARD CHAIR

Ann Messer, MD, is a Board Certified Family Physician who has been practicing family medicine and urgent care for 30 years. With over a decade of experience in Global Health, Ann founded One Good Turn to give health workers around the world the tools and knowledge to build self-sustaining, healthy communities. A graduate of Rush Medical School in Chicago, Dr. Messer did her residency work at Harvard in a triad of internal medicine, psychiatry, and family practice. Dr. Messer was named a Fulbright Specialist by the US Department of State for her work developing a clinical competency curriculum in Cambodia. She was recently awarded the Inspire Humanitarian Award by the United Nations Association Austin Chapter. Dr. Messer lives in Austin with her husband Tim; their three grown children are nearby, and together they enjoy outdoor sports, good food, and the family dog, Ziggy.

TIMOTHY HINES, MD

SECRETARY, BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Timothy Hines, MD, founder and past president of Central Texas Kidney Associates, is a board-certified nephrologist and a brilliant clinician. Dr. Hines attended the Baylor College of Medicine, did his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's in Chicago, and completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Married to Ann, he has long and enthusiastically supported the mission of One Good Turn. Tim has shared in Ann's medical mission work from the beginning and provides a valuable perspective on the development of One Good Turn. He's also her partner in raising their three fantastic college-age kids.

GREGG C. WADDILL III

TREASURER, BOARD OF DIRECTORS; GENERAL COUNSEL

Gregg Waddill has 50 years' experience as an attorney. He has worked in the for-profit, not-for-profit and public sectors of the health care industry. Gregg has served as general counsel for several hospitals, held a number of senior health care management positions and been in private practice since 2002 in Austin, Texas. Gregg holds a Bachelor of Business Adminsitration from the University of Texas at Austin, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

LENEE ALLEN BENNETT

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Lenee started her career as a CPA/Consultant with Arthur Andersen and Company, before transitioning to the technology sector. Working as a product manager, and in marketing and sales positions, Lenee ultimately had the good fortune to join Dell Computer (now Dell Technologies, Inc) when the company had 900 employees. She retired as head of the Multinational Accounts Division, managing $1.1 Billion in revenue. This experience enabled a life of philanthropy and service in supporting her primary interests in children’s health and education. She was one of the founders of Trinity Episcopal School in Austin, serving as the first Chair of the Capital Campaign and a member of the Board of Trustees. She also served on the Board of the Austin Chapter of the March of Dimes and the Fountain Valley School of Colorado. She actively supports CASA of Travis County and Breakthrough Austin.

ANNIE ALBRECHT

PROGRAMS & ADMIN DIRECTOR

Annie Albrecht has spent most of her professional career in nonprofit management and sustainable development. As Programs & Admin Director for One Good Turn, Annie wears many hats: from medical assistant, to trip planner, to social media & website guru, she keeps the organization running. Before joining One Good Turn, Annie was Senior Project Manager at Corcoran & Co, an Austin-based consulting firm specializing in strategic fundraising for nonprofits. Annie also worked on the media and communications team at the National Women's Law Center in Washington, DC and on the development team at Well Aware in Austin. Annie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Plan II Honors and Corporate Communication.

TONY MACIE

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Tony Macie works in strategic development for multiple organizations. As Founder and CEO of Expert-Exchange, an organization that connects veterans with development projects in post-conflict countries, Tony was an integral part of OGT's initial projects in Cambodia. Tony's post-graduate education is in Mandarin and business studies. He provides guidance, stellar advice, and in-country project support.

IRENE CAO

MEDICAL RESEARCH & CURRICULUM INTERN

Irene Cao is a nursing student at the University of Texas at Austin who is passionate about public and global health. Aspiring to be an advocate for vulnerable populations, Irene is interning with OGT to spread health awareness and create a medical curriculum for neglected communities. Irene is a seasoned traveler, has visited dozens of states and multiple countries, and worked as an intern at Titan Consulting, a healthcare consulting company in Japan. She hopes to use her clinical and travel experience to promote health in developing countries.

ADDISON SCALES

MEDICAL RESEARCH & CURRICULUM INTERN

Addison Scales is a current undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. She is
majoring in nutrition while also completing an interdisciplinary certificate in social inequality,
health, and policy and a minor in anthropology. During her time at UT, Addison has interned
with a community clinic in her hometown of Amarillo, Texas, and worked with the Austin
nonprofit Girlstart to teach elementary girls STEM topics. Additionally, she studied public health
in India for a semester where she conducted research on menstrual equity. After graduating
from UT, Addison plans to pursue a career in global health with a focus on public health and
applied anthropology. In her spare time, Addison enjoys traveling, outdoor recreation, reading,
and dancing.

LILIAN ESTRADA

GRANT RESEARCH & WRITING INTERN

Lilian Estrada is originally from San Juan, Texas, located in the Rio Grande Valley in deep South Texas. She is a Junior at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in English with a minor in Journalism. She also works with the University Interscholastic League, assisting high school coaches all across the state of Texas. As a grant writer and researcher for One Good Turn, Lilian hopes to aid in the process of providing essential health resources to communities worldwide. Outside of her class schedule and work with OGT, Lilian is a self-professed homebody who spends much of her time reading, and holding her roommates as captive taste-testers for her cooking endeavors.

JULIE ROTH

MEDICAL RESEARCH & CURRICULUM INTERN

Julie Roth is a graduate student at Texas A&M University who is pursuing a master’s degree in international affairs and a certificate in international communication and public diplomacy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service. Additionally, she works as a copy editor and research assistant on campus. Julie is a Kansas native who received her undergraduate degree from Kansas State University in anthropology and international studies. This summer, she is excited to learn the ins and outs of international health education while working as a medical research & curriculum intern with One Good Turn. In her free time, Julie enjoys rock climbing and baking layer cakes.

MIA ALBRECHT

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN

Mia Albrecht is a Junior at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a degree in Corporate Communications with a minor in Business. Mia is a member of the Campus Environmental Center at UT and has volunteered in campus-wide election campaigns, advocating for a range of student interests. As an intern for One Good Turn, Mia hopes to aid in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies to spread awareness of the work One Good Turn does. After Graduating UT, Mia plans to enter the field of Organizational Development. In her free time, Mia enjoys doing pottery and listening to podcasts.

IVY YANG

RESEARCH & TRANSLATION INTERN

Ivy Yang is currently a senior at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a degree in International Nutrition with a minor in Business and a Bridging Disciplines Program certificate in Ethics & Leadership in Healthcare. She is passionate about global health and policy and, during her time at UT, has been a part of many cultural organizations such as FSA and VSA, as well as helped organize UT’s Global Professional Training conference. She has also previously interned at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore and hopes to continue learning about global health this summer with One Good Turn. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a career abroad in public health and nutrition. In her free time, Ivy enjoys fitness and listening to music and podcasts.

HELEN HULSEY

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Helen Hulsey is passionate about giving a creative voice to purpose-driven brands. She is currently a junior advertising student at the University of Texas at Austin and is an active member of the Texas Creative portfolio program, in which she constructs integrated advertising campaigns with an emphasis on art direction. Since joining the One Good Turn team, she has produced various graphics to supplement OGT's educational materials and further its mission of making healthcare information more accessible. She is also a social media intern for Austin Music Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting the local music industry. Outside of school and work, Helen enjoys reading activist literature and exploring the city of Austin.
